Step by step
-
Most powerful in HEMS: S35
ESP32-S3-LCD-5 — the only board where HEMS firmware uses extra PSRAM (8 MB): larger telemetry batches (up to 500 measurements) and plenty of spare RAM. The 5" screen is not supported yet.
-
Dalej: ESP32-S3 (S3D, S16, WSH)
Nowszy rdzeń LX7, 3,2 MB na program (obraz zajmuje ok. 40 %) — największy zapas na nowe funkcje i aktualizacje.
-
Klasyczne ESP32 (E32, W32)
LX6 core, 1.9 MB for the program (the image uses ~80 %). E32 and W32 are the only ones with Bluetooth LE (JK, JBD, Daly… BMS, Victron) and RS485 on GPIO16/17 — but Bluetooth takes part of the RAM. W32 has an external antenna.

Check your connector
On the connector page (firmware 0.30.4 or newer) the “Hardware” line shows the chip, cores and MHz, flash, PSRAM and how much program space the image uses, and the RAM tile shows how much memory is used out of the available.
| Board | Chip and CPU | RAM (chip) / PSRAM | Flash / program space (used) | Connectors and features | Rating in HEMS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S35 — ESP32-S3-LCD-5 | ESP32-S3, 2 × LX7 240 MHz | 512 KB / 8 MB (used) | 8 MB / 3.2 MB (~39 %) | Wi-Fi; 5" screen not supported yet | 1 — most memory |
| S3D — ESP32-S3 DevKit (N8R8) | ESP32-S3, 2 × LX7 240 MHz | 512 KB / 8 MB (not used) | 8 MB / 3.2 MB (~39 %) | Wi-Fi, colour LED; no RS485 or Bluetooth | 2 |
| S16 — ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 N16R8 | ESP32-S3, 2 × LX7 240 MHz | 512 KB / 8 MB (not used) | 16 MB flash (obraz w przygotowaniu) | Wi-Fi, colour LED; no RS485 or Bluetooth | 2 — najwięcej flash |
| WSH — Waveshare 32154 | ESP32-S3, 2 × LX7 240 MHz | 512 KB / — | 8 MB / 3.2 MB (~39 %) | Wi-Fi; RS485 pins to be confirmed | 2 |
| W32 — ESP32-WROOM-32U | ESP32, 2 × LX6 240 MHz | 520 KB / none | 4 MB / 1.9 MB (~82 %) | Wi-Fi with external antenna, Bluetooth LE (BMS, Victron), RS485 GPIO16/17 | 3 — only one with BLE and antenna |
| E32 — ESP32 DevKit (ESP32-D0WD-V3) | ESP32, 2 × LX6 240 MHz | 520 KB / none | 4 MB / 1.9 MB (~82 %) | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, RS485 GPIO16/17, LED GPIO2 | 3 |
Chip figures per Espressif documentation (ESP32: 520 KB SRAM, ESP32-S3: 512 KB SRAM); less is left for the program because Wi-Fi and the system use part of it. The connector's RAM tile shows the actual value.
Płytki S3D i S16 (N8R8 / N16R8) mają 8 MB PSRAM, ale obecny firmware jej nie włącza — korzysta z niej tylko S35.
Questions and problems
Which board should I buy?
Do falownika z loggerem Wi-Fi albo Modbus TCP wystarczy każda. Do BMS po Bluetooth — E32 albo W32 (W32 z anteną zewnętrzną do rozdzielni). Najwięcej zapasu pamięci — S35 albo płytki ESP32-S3.
Why is the RAM in the panel smaller than in the table?
The table gives the chip memory. Wi-Fi, connection encryption (TLS) and the system use part of it — about 300 KB is left for the program on ESP32 and a bit more on ESP32-S3. The RAM tile on the connector page shows how much of it is used.
