Step by step
-
Open the device
Panel → Devices → click the device. The “Role in the site balance” section is in the settings form (the “i” icon next to its name explains the rules).
-
Check “Used in balance now”
For each quantity (PV production, grid power, storage power, SOC, consumption) you see the value from this device or “not reported”, and which device is counted now. A green “this device” means the balance takes data from here.
-
Tick the primary source
Only when several devices measure the same thing — e.g. an energy meter and an inverter both report grid power. Tick “Primary source” on the device you trust more (usually the meter at the grid connection). Without it the choice is automatic.
-
PV production
PV production is summed over all inverters — nothing to tick. Tick “whole site production” only when one device’s PV power already includes the others (e.g. a meter at the PV point). The other devices’ PV is then not added a second time.
-
Save and check the dashboard
After “Save” the balance follows the new settings from the next reading. Compare the energy flow on the dashboard with the manufacturer’s app.
| Situation | What to tick |
|---|---|
| One device measures the quantity | Nothing — it is used automatically |
| A grid connection meter and the inverter both report grid power | “Primary source” on the meter (grid power) |
| A hybrid inverter and a separate BMS both report SOC | “Primary source” on the one you trust more (storage power and SOC) |
| Several inverters, each counting its own production | Nothing — PV is summed |
| One device already reports the total production of all inverters | “Whole site production” on that device |
A device with a communication failure is skipped when the same quantity is available from another device — the balance keeps working.
The change applies to new data; days already stored in history are not recalculated.
Questions and problems
Which device is chosen when I tick nothing?
Order: energy meter, then inverter, storage, BMS; on a tie — the device added first. A device without communication is skipped when another source exists.
Why is the field greyed out?
The device does not report this quantity (e.g. a meter does not know the storage SOC) — it cannot be its source.
PV production on the dashboard is too high
Most often the same production is counted twice — e.g. a meter at the PV point and the inverters. Tick “whole site production” on the meter or remove the duplicate device from the site.
